I started using sensodyne recently, I found it in my cupboard. I don't think its that old, or so I hope. Whenever I brush with it, it tastes minty...and rancid. Rancid Mint! I'm not sure if that snormal, or if I have some screwy/expired bottle of toothpaste.

I could get a new bottle of toothpaste, but that involves going to the store. I barely get off my ass to go out drinking, no way in hell I'm gonna goto the store :p

Sensodyne does has a strange taste, but you'll get used to it.

However, unless you send your tube to me I can't help you diagnose any further.

Order in, works for me Qosis, cheers! :D

As for the toothpaste, I used Sensodyne when I had some dental work and that "rancid mint" taste is normal :)

I doubt it. Maybe if you spit into the tube and left it open in 90 degree weather, some nasties would start growing.. But other than that...

Toothpaste is basically pasty flavored soap.

Okay, the active ingredient in toothpaste is the same as in (some) soap. :p

Toothpaste ingredients

Fine. Inactive ingredient. :p

I'm referring to sodium laureth sulfate, btw..

That's the main detergent in most toothpastes it seems.

Then can I just as easily take a nice bite out of my soap rather than wasting my time brushing?

Well.. No. You still have to brush your teeth. You don't need toothpaste to brush your teeth.

It would taste pretty nasty though. It will probably irritate your gums, and it won't have flouride or anything else beneficial to your teeth in it. ;)

If you don't have any toothpaste, it is an excellent alternative.
