ok here is what i got and what i want.

I got my current PC that is not wireless.I want him to remain that way.My girlfriend got her laptop and she want to be wireless. She have a wireless card in her laptop already.

My current ISP speed is 100.Mbps.I can download at 500k seconds( half a meg per seconds woohoo!!)

Ok so here are my question:

1-Will i be able to remain non-wireless and my girlfriend be wireless at the same with with this router?

2-I can download at 500k seconds. Will i be able to still download at 500k seconds if my girlfriend laptop is off??Will i be able to split the connection so we both get 250k seconds each??

3-Can this router be secured so i dont get my signal stolen???

4-Should i trust this router??Is this a good band??? Worth it??

5-Can i turn off the firewall in this router?( they said it come with a big firewall)

Thanks.

And also a big thank you to the two Lifers who help me out figured out where to post this message, and by the same time increase their post count!!! 😉

1 - yes
2 - yes/no - I doubt there is any real QOS (quality of service) control on there.
3 - Yes - Should it has WEP/WPA, but not 100% secure, never is.
4 - Varies - Google some reviews
5 - You can port forward or DMZ to one computer - You are protected by NAT, but you can't disable NAT to my knowledge on this router.

6 - If you get 100Mbps from you ISP, I want to be your neighbour.

edit: Corrected spelling 😉

What he ^^^ said. But I doubt that you get 100 Mbps. Most services are around 7 Mbps unless you pay BIG bucks. That is consistent with your reported speed of 500KBps.

Really, what you are asking for are basic firewall router features. If you get a good D-Link or Linksys, you should be just fine. Although I am sure that people have different brand loyalties. D-Link vs. Linksys vs. Netgear is kind of like Ford vs. Chevy vs. Toyota.
