Can this non-DDR board actually use DDR RAM?

Ladies and Gentlemen,

A colleague of mine has a Microstar 6534 mobo which doesn't use DDR memory. MSI's web-site mentions that PC133 memory should be used as opposed to PC100 to help keep the system more stable.

Question is, does this mean the board could use PC2100 DDR RAM although it won't be able to benefit from the DDR ability? I have a spare 256MB DDR chip at home doing nothing you see...

Regards,

Jonty.

Nope, SDR and DDR are both physically and electronically different.

Even if they'd fit in the same socket, you'd likely fry the DDR DIMM, since they operate at a lower voltage(2.5 for DDR, 3.3 for SDR).

Regular SDRAM is 168 pin; DDR SDRAM is 184 pin.

The DDR ram wouldn't fit in the slot. I'm not sure how MSI's statement made you think DDR ram would work in that mobo? MSI says PC133 SDRAM should be used instead of PC100 SDRAM, why would you think DDR ram would work?
