This is a Lanparty NF4 board (I know its old :)). When I connect the drive to this board it will not boot up. It detects all the drives in the system then it just stops there. It won't even allow me to get into the bios. However, if I disconnect the data cable it boots up fine. Doing a google search, I saw a site that said that the SATA controller supports 48 bit which is 128 petabytes so at least on the surface the size shouldn't be a problem. Is there a setting I need to make in the bios? Ideas?

You may want to download the manual on the BIOS settings. There were several NF4 boards. You may have a serial ata 1 or 2 disabled. Is it a new drive? Formated in what file system and OS.

I had to set the drive on 'large' instead of 'auto' and it worked. What's kinda weird is that after I booted into the bios with the 'large' setting I changed it back to 'auto' and it still booted up. I guess after a CMOS reset you have to set the SATA port to 'large' then you can use 'auto'. I did at least find out in my testing a 1TB works on 'Auto'.

Nice. So it says large, not LBA.. or in other words, what were the choices? DFI were known for extensive BIOS. That company made great mainstream and enthusiast motherboards. Now they are into industrial and embedded systems.

I recently gave away a couple of new NF3 , and NF4. ,I had them it seems like forever, I over bought. They were very finicky chipsets but if you new your way around the BIOS, you could get them running fast and stable. I could really dial them in but I forgot a lot of that stuff. Man, the older I get, the more I lose.

It probably would with a proper BIOS fix but I don't think even 1TB drives were available when this board received its last/final BIOS update.
