Can this happen???

My cable modem was fritzing out.
I just carried my ass to Staples and bought a new one.
I hooked it up and hit the net.
Instant access. I never even registered the MAC address with my ISP.
Being as they have my old mac address, there's no way I can imagine that they can see me.
Is it normal for ISP's to give up a world of free internet access, or am I way off base here?

Doesn't seem right at all.. I know when I got my new modem and moved from the rental modem to the new modem that I had to wait a few days (because my ISP fvcking blows at customer service) and re-register with the new MAC address of the new cable modem.
