The newer Kindles (I think everything since the OG Kindle) use a standard Micro USB cable. You can use any USB -> AC adapter (such as the type that come with a cell phone) or plug it into a PC. However the special Kindle one may charge the battery faster since it is guaranteed to support the high-current charging spec that the Kindle expects (there are several).
