Can this be made transparent?

A site I'm working on for a client - my problem at the moment is getting this GIF to be transparent (Ver-So Transport Inc. logo with the red V). My "l337 photoshop h4x0r skills" seem to be escaping me at the moment. The current faded background pic is temporary and will probably change to something very different, but it's just to keep the effect for now. I need to get the logo transparent though!

Any ideas? ugh.. stumped on such a st00pid thing. :(

With the aliased edge on the V, it's not going to look pretty. Just make sure you have the 89a GIF Export Plugin on your Photoshop program and Export it as a single layer with Indexed Color.

Based on the fact that he can't make a transparent gif, I'm going to go out on a limb and say "relatively little".

Hey, i've done it before. A long time ago. ;)

But yes, I don't make too much, since I'm working through a company at an hourly wage, and the sites I'm doing are 'small business websites' that should take no more than 5-8hrs tops.

That's what I thought, but I don't see it there.

Search for 89a plugin on google. I'd say. I don't know if this is a freeware plugin. I seem to remember it being on the Adobe Installation CD. You DO have that, don't you? ;) It should be in the Addons folder.

Nah, are you crazy? I can't afford photoshop. I'm in a comp lab at the moment.. I thought it was standard for these to have fully functional photoshops set up, and I DO remember using the export thing before. ugh. i'll search for it I guess.

any other ways? :)

post the original image and someone will probably do it for you.... but if you have photoshop 6 or 7, try making it a one layer image (not the 'background' layer) and erasing all the white, etc. Then save it as a transparent png or gif.

And your employer won't supply you with a copy of Photoshop?
Come to think of it, I've never asked them, but it never struck me that they SHOULD either. It's part-time work (been there a year and a half though). It's not just web design. I do any computer related stuff for them. I just happen to have several web design contracts at the moment.

After a little searching around, it seems that the file is no longer standard and not necessary. The only thing I can suggest is if you still need it by then. I'll be home in 40 minutes and can send you a copy of the filter. ;)

they surely have a larger copy of the logo than that. contact them and tell them that the company logo is very important and it needs to look as nice as possible, the graphic designer who made that certainly has it on file in a nice, large, layered psd format

edit: meh wurds wuz mezzid ub....
