Can this be done?

Your layout looks good. My only suggestion is to get rid of the ICS - it is the poo. A better solution, IMO, would be to stick a Coyote Linux disk in that computer. Check it out at http://www.coyotelinux.com/. It's very easy to setup and use and will give you better performance and reliability. Oh, and it's free :D:beer:

Ok, thanx guys. First of all this is for a friend and that is what they want. They want that main computer to be a server and do not wish to forward any ports or go through a hassle with a router (which, I told them would not be any problem) and this way is cheaper since they already have a switch.

ICS is a FAAAR bigger hassle then a router.

I am very well aware I wouldn't be using it but they insist so I'm just making sure that their plans work

I do not get it? :confused:

Beside the cost of electricity to run a Routing computer none stop.

If this is done legally the cost of a wasted license for the OS is far more then a Cheappo Cable/DSL Router.

In addition ICS is notorious to work correctly for a while and then it gets mysteriously trashed. :brokenheart:

First of all this is done legally. Second, you missing a small thing, that computer is not there for no reason it would be there anyways as they plan on having it work as a Web and FTP server so this is just one extra task for it.

Even more of a reason to use a router and put the server box in the DMZ.

computer89,

Sorry we're being so rough, but your application REALLY screams for a router of somekind, especially if they are running web and ftp services.

But with that being said, sure you can use ICS and a switch as outlined in your diagram but be prepared to fight it constantly when they want to run publice web and ftp services.

You can now add 1 more infected Server to the net spreading it's disease :)
Please be a good 'net neighbor and tel your friend what he wants to do wont work and to get a router.

This thread reminds me an Old joke.

A Guy sends an email to his Girl friend.
======================================================
?I love you so much the nothing in the world I would not do for you.?

P.S. If it is not raining on Saturday I will come and take you to the movies.
======================================================

I want a Server, My own email, big Network. The world is mine.

But have a Switch and I am not going to waste it.

Another vote for go for the simple solution (i.e. router). It's just hard to depend on ICS, in my exerpience, and I know I wouldn't want to make any service calls over flakey internet sharing when a router is foolproof.
