This is all my dvd player has but can the 1 x component video output ( RCA phono x 3 ) cable from the dvd player be connected to any of these connectors in the back of that picture or do I need the same type of connector?

Dude, no offense, but how many threads do you need for that projector? Didn't it come with a manual? Doesn't the manufacturer's website have a support section?

Anyway, yes. Hook up the video out RCA connector from your DVD player to the video in RCA connector of the projector.

The S-Video connector would give you a better picture. Your DVD player doesn't have an S-Video output?

No its a Philps DVP 5140. It only has component video with three different color cables that connect to this. Green, blue and yellow I believe. Can't remember. Its not as good as HDMI but second best.

Well, the Philips product site is down at the moment, but Circuit City has the 5140. According to the specs on the CC website, the 5140 only has component and composite video outputs. So, you'll have to use the composite output on the 5140 to connect it to the pic of the Optoma device in your first post.
