Can their be a thread for IT professionals? Questions, answers, stories on a more technical and professional level?

I think it would be a great idea to have a seperate forum category for IT professionals to post in. I know there are a ton of network/systems admins that work on corporate sized networks on here mixed in with the hobbiests/enthusiasts who might have 2 or 3 systems. I like to use this forum to answer some answers to problems i run into from time to time that are a little bit more complicated than how do I share my internet connection, I only have on IP and 4 computers, or do I need a crossover cable to directly connect two comps? I think a lot of the IT professionals on here would find this interesting as they could actually help to resolve "real" problems as opposed to hashing out responses to the same 3 questions that are asked every day. I personally would love to help solve things, like how do I get rid of duplicate GUIDS in my SMS database, how do I get my crashed win2k DC back up after the latest MS hotfix crashed it. Anyone else interested in something like this, please post here.

I think it's a great idea, but the head honchoes on this forum aren't to keen to adding new forums all the time. Perhaps we could get a sysadmin to give us a little webspace and bandwidth for a separate forum for sysadmins? 😉

I persnally don't feel it's necessary to create a new forum for that, as most of the examples you listed could easily fit well into one of the existing forums at AT.

You can post them in there, but good luck finding the more complex questions when you have all the "here's my new rig, what do you think" posts. It might also promote more intelligent posting than some of the other groups.

I agree with Rand, I don't think it's necessary. Also if you post in one of the current forums you will probably get more people to look at it (granted they may not all be the intelligent responses you are looking for, but you might get a few more bright responses also). I guess I could maybe see a Server Forum, but I don't think the admins would go for it.

I also agree with Rand. 99% of the stuff covered in the forums here are taken care of by some of the best tech guys I know. 🙂
