I am trying to share (via Win XP Pro) the WINDOWS folder on a networked PC but the checkbox is greyed out. Can this folder even be shared?
Thanks.

Well, apparently, it can't be shared!! I just tried it now and yes, the option was greyed out.
There's probably a good reason though. Windows dir only contains system files (and should always do so). I don't see why other computers in the network would want to mess around with files from this folder...unless u trying to troubleshoot the computer (in which case, ur probably better off copying the needed files from the win folder to another shared one.

Microsoft protecting users from themselves again.
Go to a command prompt and type net share sharename=c:\windows; replace sharename with the name you want it to be shared as.
It won't show up as a shared folder in Explorer (no "sharehand" icon). But it will show up in other people's Network Neighborhood.

Thank you very much.
All I was wanting to do was install the fonts from my PC to my laptop via the network....I realize there are many other ways I could transfer and then install the fonts but I was just curious about sharing the c:\Windows
------------------------------------
I did share the c:\windows as directed and it added it to the Network Neighborhood but when I try to access that folder I get this error message: not accessible. You might not have access.... Access is denied.
Any idea how I can get access to this?
Thanks.
