Can the RedSox rebound?

ProfJohn

With Varitek and Nixon returning Monday what are the chances the RedSox can rebound and perhabs make the playoffs?

There is no way they can catch the Yankees, but maybe a wild card?

The loss of Nixon and especially Veritek is the main reason the team went to hell in August, their return should make a huge difference, and Ortiz should be back this week too. Let's hope they can turn things around.

i sure hope so. i have tek, ramirez, schilling, papelbon and loretta on my fantasy baseball team. right now would be a good time for them to start getting hot.

No.

Even if the Twins or White Sox play .500 baseball from now until the end of the season, the Red Sox need to play .700+ to win the wild card. Also, a majority of their remaining games are against the AL East, where they have gone 31-28.

Nope its over.

too far behind in division and wild card.

team failed to make any legit deals to help them before deadline. I still wonder why they traded Bronson arroyo away. He's not the greatest but pitching wins.

Its very much over... and i dont think tak and nixon was the cause of their downfall.. its that shoddy a$$ bullpen besides pap

The fat lady finished singing in Fenway awhile back this season... right after the Yankees 5 game sweep... in other words its over, big time.

they're 9 games out, with series against white sox, royals, orioles, and then yankees...good luck with that!

like some said, if they thought they could contend, they'd still have david wells.

The RedSux players are making tee times and travel plans. Even they know it's over. Even if the Yankees collapse, even if both the Twins and White Sox collapse, the Red Sox simply ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH to take advantage.

BoSux stat of the day: They were 16-2 against the National League. They're 57-62 against the American League.

BoSux stat of the day #2: They were 11-1 against Baltimore. That makes them 46-61 against the rest of the American League.

Come back? They'll be lucky to stay ahead of the Blue Jays for 2nd in the AL east and ahead of the Angels in the Wild Card. They're pretty likely to finish 3rd in the East and 6th in the wild card.
