can the k7s5a take a Sempron?

It might post as "unknown cpu". Your better off with a regular xp2400, which is faster than the sempron. The sempron is simply a reworked xp for marketing purposes. The 2400 with socket 754 is probably the best deal (about $60 online retail boxed), but that would require you to change boards.

Nope. All Semprons require 166 MHz CPU bus, which K7S5A no can do. Get an XP2400+ while they're still available. That's the best this board can do, and it'll do it perfectly well.

As o1die said already, it's the same CPU anyway, just with a new name on, and with new bus frequency/multiplier combinations - and a new rating scheme linked to Celerons rather then Pentiums. Hence they're rated much higher than Athlon XP of the same actual clock frequency, and, being new, they're also more expensive than the latter.
