Can the Hardcano 9 handle a 92mm Tornado?

I have the Xaser III V2000A case w/ the Hardcano 9 fan controller. Just added an SLK-900A heatsink and a 92mm Vantec Tornado heatsink fan. That fan is, of course, loud. Want to dial it down some most of the time, wondering if I could move the 2 (rear exhaust) fans on the Hardcano's #3 dial over to #2 (w/ the 2 side intake fans). I've tried hunting down info on the web regarding the allowable loads on the Hardcano 9, and keep finding only the same info on capacity, which is that if you're going to put more than .35 amp's worth of fans together (daisy-chain), then you have to put them on #2 or #3. That doesn't tell me, though, what the maximum load is for #2/#3, and the Tornado is 1.0 amp by itself. Anybody know whether I can do this? Thanks.

Thanks for the response! I did take a look at that, and I'm not sure that .8 amp is the maximum load for #2/3. Looks like Thermaltake is just saying that most CPU fans fall within the .35-.8 amp range. Anybody else tried using a high-powered fan with the Hardcano? Thanks!

Saw over at Newegg where somebody used a Thermaltake H.M.L. fan controller, model number A1268, to regulate an 80mm Tornado, so I picked one up at CompUSA today and may try that before re-wiring my Hardcano. Am I going to start a fire?

Couldn't get the Thermaltake HML controller to work with the fan, so I re-wired the fans; 2 side intake plus 2 rear exhaust all on Hardcano Fan #2, and the Tornado by itself on Fan #3. Seems to be working! Can use the Hardcano to adjust the Tornado speed from 2800 to 4800 RPM, so it seems to not have affected the ceiling for the Tornado.

I spoke to thermaltake on this exact issue friday regarding my Xaser III. The tech claimed 2 and 3 could take 3.5 AMP. Yes 3.5! I asked. "are you sure 3.5? dont you mean .35?" and he said "No, 3.5"

Wouldn't it be smarter to have all the intake fans (front and side) on 2 or 3, and all the exhaust (back and top making 3) on 1 or 4? And then your volcano on either 2 or 3, whichever you didn't use for a .35+ amp load.

That way you can modulate ALL your intake and ALL your exhaust fans with two differnet knobs. That's what I did and it seems more logical. Want a little less intake? Sure, turn down all 4 at once!

I swapped out some of the Thermaltake fans for more powerful Antec case fans and am not sure that 1 or 4 can handle 3 of them. Having the side and rear fans on the same knob also makes it easier to ensure intake and exhaust flows are similar. I think. I did consider doing what you suggested.

Hey, that's very cool (yeah, yeah, ha ha) on the #2 and #3 if they can really handle 3.5 amps. Wow! I find that hard to believe! Makes me suspicious, though, maybe some CSR just looking at a data sheet with a typo or just not reading it correctly (twice, apparently!).

Well it's good to see you're running your Tornado on your Hardcano. I'll be doing the same next week! How audible is the Tornado at 2600 RPM? I'd imagine not too bad, which is what I"m hoping to run it at.

Hardcano. It's not too bad, still very much audible but a lot more quiet than at 4800 RPM. Still keeping things very cool in there, nice to have the option of cranking it up for heavy gaming or overclocking fun.

Hmm I had read a review that said it was pretty inaudible at 2600 rpm (Well, no more audible than the other case fans).

Below is testing with the Vantec 92MM Tornado. This IS the most powerful 92MM fan on the market. It is rated at 119CFM on it's top speed of 4800RPM. On full speed it is unbearably loud. In fact, when I did test it on full speed I noticed my neighbors kept looking in the air for a jumbo jet! However, I connected the Tornado to a sunbeam fan controller (*see note below about fan controllers) and found that below 3000RPM, it is tolerable. At 2600, I couldn't hear it. So below are results from testing the SLK900A with the 92MM Tornado fan on full speed, and at 2600RPM, the lowest speed I could not hear it.

Sounds like he ran it at 4800 RPM a little too long -- and went deaf :D

Huh? Speak up, I can't hear you. :p

Depending on your noise tolerance and if you have a side fan, at 2200-2600 that 92mm tornado is quiet. I can't take it past 3k. Only run it at 4800 for testing and then wait outside miles away.
