Can the core I7 be placed into the new 5520 motherboard.

It says xeon but it also says 1366. So whats the deal will it allow for 2 core I7 and what kind of performance are you looking at.

No, Xeon with 2 QPI only may be used on that board.

board wont post without 2 CPUs in it. in order to get 2 cpus in one board you need a CPU with 2 QPI links, which only xeon cpus have. the board does take quad core xeons however, which range in price from $237 (newegg) up for supported models, just depends on which clock speed you want to pay for out of the box. i for one would pick one of these chips http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...652744898 1652941697 1652856327&name=Westmere

Actually, yes it will post with one CPU; however, that CPU must still have 2 QPI.

Sorry it took so long to respond I've been sick. Mine is high about 56 without fan. I have 3 gtx 280 though right ontop of the north and south bridge.
