Can the backed up files safely be removed if the installation of a Service Pack was successful?

I installed SP 2 yesterday and choose to backup all replaced files. Installation was successful but now I've still those 129 MB of backed up files on my (small, 1 GB) root partition.

Can I just remove those files and clean out the registry?

You can remove those files if you really wanted to, but to be safer, I simply zipped mine up and got back 2/3 of the space.

Good idea, I'll just 'rar' them. Better safe than sorry
