This is what I wanted to do.
D drive was the primary bootup drive and needed to be cleaned up. However before transferring important files from D to C drive, I thought it best to cleanup C with an XP format and clean install. After that I planned on transferring important files from D to C and then just format the D drive for cleanup.

The problem is:
When I reformatted and installed XP pro on C drive, XP made it the bootup drive. D at first, was not visible in disk manager but was seen in Hardware device manager. I activated D in device manager.

This new reformat on C also scattered files all around my D drive. When signing on as administrator I see one of the power accounts is missing and when clicking on another account I am denied access. I can?t find important 12gbs of files on D drive, possibly because I?m being denied access during the search.

In trying to solve the problem I did the following:
I disconnected my C drive and setup D as a single with the intention of getting full access and thereby pull those files to store on a CD to transfer later to C. However on bootup into D drive (as a single drive) I?m receiving a message ?insert boot disc A? or something similar to that. XP pro is also on drive D, or at least it was.

How can I boot into drive D?

Help is appreciated. Thanks
