Hi folks,

I just pulled out the 60mm fan I had ordered recently for my older rig and replaced it with a Vantec Stealth.. ahh finally some peace and quiet.

Now I was thinking of putting this noisy 60mm to good use in my new rig on a Gigabyte DS3.. the fan has a three pin connector. So it'll run at the same RPM when connected to the mobo, but can SpeedFan then control this speed? It couldn't on my older rig but peeps told me it's cuz my mobo doesn't support it.

The DS3 only has 2 fan connectors, are you really planning on using one on that fan?

I'd stick it on 5v via the molexes and see if it spins.

bummer.... i guess the two fan connectors would be used up for the front and rear 120mm on my Lanboy..

hmmm well good thing the Vantec Stealth shipped with a three pin to molex connector.. and bad thing that I won't be able to control the speed without the use of a fan controller.. I guess i'd be better off just getting a chipset cooler.. OR if i'm in luck the fan would drop RPM and still work on that 5V...

let's see...

If you turn on the fan control in the DS3 BIOS, it'll automatically cut the RPM in roughly half. I believe the voltage is around 7V. The mobo fan connectors aren't really used for case fans, they're for the CPU and NB fans. Use molex straight from the PSU for case fans.

NB and CPU should have dedicated mobo connectors - unless it's an el cheapo mobo, it should also have two system fan connectors.

Yeah, pretty much every decent mobo should have 2 chassis fan connectors. Mine does and I bet this one does too... if you can find a picture of it, they shouldn't be hard to spot.
