can somone explain a little on how to use partition magic?

I have Partition magic 5.0 Pro (hehe)
and i have 1 primary 30gig partion on my HD, and in the partion i have 16 gigs free space, i want to make another 16 gig partion, how do i do that?

Umm...not sure about 5, but in PQ 4, all you had to do to create a partition out of free space was click in the free space and select Create Partition in the options. It then allows you to specify how you want to format it and how big you want that partition to be. So if yours is similar at all, just click in the free space area and create anything you want!

yeah, i do that, then i click ok ok, then it says it needs to do some stuff in dos, then computer boots in dos, it does some stuff, then it says press Y to goto windows, then its done, and there is no diffrence then before? whats wrong

Are you using W2K? That happen to me before. Just use the 2 diskettes that PM creates. boot it just create whatever partition you like and reboot.

I've heard bad stories about W2K and PQ 5.

You should reinstall the program and go to custom and select dos install. Go into dos (w/o windows running) or use a boot disk and run that program. It can do everything without having to reboot (which can also mess up your boot stuff if something goes wrong). Anyway, that's the best way to use PQ PMagic.

its win98, mabey i will defrag and then do it, becuase when its in dos trying to partion it shows some wierd stuff like some hex dec code

That shouldn't happen. Defrag'ing the hard drive shouldn't matter at all.

First, if you want to use partition magic, I strongly suggest uninstalling, reinstalling, and using the DOS version.

Second, since you just have some free floating space at the end of your drive, why not just use FDISK? Granted, the interface is a bit more cryptic but it shouldn't be difficult if you know a little bit about partitioning.

Just a little confused, you're using partition magic in windows? (maybe PQ5 requires it, I don't know) If you are, as interchange suggested, I would get PQ4, even PQ3 and boot to dos, and then run partition magic from there. Or just do it the old way with fdisk 🙂 I've had some problems with PQ4 and partitioning larger disks, 60GB+, and had to resort to using PQ3 (no gui) to partition the drives...

in dos it says, "Dos/wg4 profesional error (2001)" blah blah.....
well ill just get partion magic 4 and try it out!
thanks
