Can someone with an nvidia card, XP, and the 66.93 drivers test something for me?

All,

I've had the same problem with two different cards and I was wondering if it was related to something else in my setup or a "feature" of the nvidia drivers.

When I set the "turn off monitor" value, the monitor doesn't actually shut off, it just blanks the screen. With my old 3dfx card, it went completely into "standby" mode, where the power light went to orange. Prior to installing the new nvidia drivers, using XP's default drivers, the monitor would shut off also. Once I install nvidia's driver, this no longer works.

So.... would someone with an nvidia card and the 66.93 driver (on XP) do the following:
[*]Set the monitor to turn off after 1 minute
[*]Wait 1 minute
[*]Tell me what happens.

Does the monitor actually shut off, or does the screen go blank? Does you monitor's power indicator LED change to a different color?

Other info about my setup:
Asus A7V8X mobo
Have tried TNT2 16 MB card and FX5200 128 MB card, same results
Nokia 446x pro monitor.

See also this thread on nvidia's forums for more info.

Thanks,
-Brett.

I just set mine to turn off in 1 minute.....i waited and the screen went black and the Led light turned from green to orange color.

That is with my Geforce 6800 card using the 66.93 drivers. The monitor is just a Samsung 19" CRT.

Hope that helps 🙂

daveybrat,

Thanks for checking. So it looks like your monitor really does turn off. I still find it odd that my card shuts off the monitor with the default XP drivers and not with the newer nvidia ones.

Anyone else? Especially those with either an FX 5200 or a Nokia monitor (long shot, I know)?

Thanks,
-Brett.

McArra, o2brew: Thanks for the data points. What type of monitor are you guys using?

keysplayr2003: I'll double check tonight, but I don't think this was the problem.

I booted off a knoppix Linux CD last night and was able to have the monitor power off, so it really doesn't seem to be a straight hardware problem. Must be some combination of mobo/video/monitor/driver problem.

Thanks,
-Brett.
