Can someone who is not logged in send PM's?

Im a little confused...

I just got a PM from someone about 10 mins ago (marked 9:15 on the PM); however the forum reports him to be offline and his last login time was: Last Visited On: 03/25/2003 6:09 PM.

He is in the same time zone as i am, so that could not be the case.

Any ideas?

He stayed logged in for 3 hours. It only records the time you first log on, not the last minute you were online.
He probably logged off right after sending you the PM.

I also believe that the indicator is updated based on activity. Even when logged in, you can show as logged-out by just being inactive.
