Can someone try and troubleshoot my DSL connection

My SBC Yahoo DSL connection has been performing well, I initially set it up using the modem's built-in PPPoE then I started using a D-Link 604+ router and using its PPPoE functionality and disabling that of the Speedstream 5100 DSL modem...

Everything has worked fine until I built up a PC for my brother, plugged it into the router, and now downloads are breaking mid-way through...

The PPPoE would disconnect every now and then but now it stays connected, but like I said web surfing is OK but downloading files (download.com, etc.) is a pain, they start out fine but then hang for a while, if I'm lucky they will start up again...

The router has been fine since, it's placed on the desk near 2 PCs (one is open), some speakers, a subwoofer, but other than that it seems fine

TIA

There is probably some mix up in the PPPOE between the components, and its kicking in after a while.

Getting a page takes short time so it works well, but longer download gets interrupted.

Make sure that Windows PPPOE and or any other PPPOE software is not On.

In addition make sure that the TCP/IP stack is optimized.

Download DrTCP: http://www.dslreports.com/front/DRTCP021.exe

Run the program, it will show the current settings of TCP/IP parameters. Write them down.

You can change any variable that you want, click Apply, and reboot the computer, if no good; you can always change to your original values.

Start with:

MaxMTU - for DSL =1492, Cable=1500, ISDN -1322, DialUp=576

Tcp Receive - 256960 (This is the variable to play with).

Window Scaling - Yes

Time Stamping - No

Selective Acks - Yes

Path MTU Discovery - Yes.

Black Hole - NO

Max Duplicate - 2

TTL - 64

Notice it said above Start with

These settings are not written in "stone" there is variability depending on the computer other setting. So try few setting and measure your Download for each setting.

In addition, in case a person has a Router the Router's MTU if set differently can affect the general MTU.
