Can someone tell me why ATI's Catalyst Control Center takes longer to open than Photoshop 9?

A 3.5GHz Conroe with 4GB of RAM is no slouch - yet this CCC takes a long time to open. The mouse also lags a bit right after clicking to open CCC.

When an application (3D or game) is launched that's changing the display settings it seems to act the same way. (mouse briefly non responsive for a sec or two)

Every day passes I just want to toss this 1900xtx into the ocean with the fishes. :|

Enough that it warrants complaining. Of course my main gripe with the card is the annoying flicker. Read this thread about it.

It's incredibly annoying when I have to change resolutions and refresh rates for when I want to use the component out to my HDTV, but I'll deal with it I guess.

Just wait'll Photoshop uses .NET.

Make sure you have .NET 2.0 installed (it's faster). ATI CCC is really bloated (they made all these "objects" for plugins, etc that nobody really uses).

1 second to open for me. Hardly a long time. First time loading it after a boot is around 3-4 seconds.

One key change to make it load up much faster is, change it to manual detection, in the display detection optionsoptions, under display options.

This made a big difference. What does manual detection entail? What does it change as far as what the user does?

most of the functions of CCC can be accessed without actually opening CCC, through the tray context menu.

I've experienced that flicker on laptops with ATI. Including my Dell (9months old).

Nice. :disgust: Goes to further my mantra of sticking with Nvidia in the desktop and mobile, which I typically do. Its clearly the overall better product.

You got a quite FAST system (3.5 Ghz conroe and 4GB mem) you should stick with CCC and get used to it.

No that's like having a leaking holding tank and buying a larger pump to make up!

GRRRR!

Not to derail the thread, but I thought I was the only one with the flicker problem. Dual monitors + x1900 aiw = Lose.

No derailment at all! It's just another brick in the wall. I'm convinced there's a Tyler working at ATi and the flicker is sending a message!

I notice the flicker on boot with my X1900AIW, but it doesn't bother me. It doesn't seem to do it when loading applications or such. Then again, I'm using ATT, so I don't know if that is the reason.
