So I'm trying to decide on getting a refurbed Ipod touch from Apple for 179 bucks, or a 2G for 229. I know you can update the firmware of the original touch to 2.0 so it can do most of the same stuff, but what exactly would I be missing out on from the 2G?

I know the 2G has built-in Nike+ support, but the regular touch can work with the dongle, right? I know the original touch doesn't have an external speaker either, but I can't imagine that would be used a whole lot either way.

So if I were to get a 1G Ipod Touch and bump up the firmware, what exactly would I be missing out on?

i don't believe Nike+ will work on a 1G touch with the dongle.

That said, the 2G touch has microphone support, so you can use VOIP if you'd like, and a dedicated volume rocker on the side. Thats about the biggest improvement IMHO (other than the fact it looks a little better to me, and is slightly thinner) so I'd go for the cheaper model and upgrade firmware.

The 2G Touch also has a bluetooth chip, though at this point I have no idea what they may use it for. Unless of course the Nike+iPod stuff utilized bluetooth.

yeah, it runs on the same bandwidth, the chip was for the nike support, not normal bluetooth.
