Hi everyone. I have an Epox 8K7A, and a CPU of 1.4Ghz. Recently, I realized that this whole time I've been running at only 1050Mhz. I have an Intellimouse Optical that has been working fine on my USB port at that speed. But I wanted to be running at the speed my CPU is supposed to be, so I increased the FSB from 100 to 133! However, at that speed, my USB port does not detect my mouse (it only detects it when I switch back to 100 FSB (1050mhz).

Epox recommended that it wouldn't hurt to flash my BIOS to refresh anything that might not be working properly. I downloaded the latest BIOS for my EP-8K7A. However, I am at a loss of memory on what the guy told me to do in flashing my BIOS.

Can someone please provide me step-by-step instructions on how it's done?? Please leave no details out, because I don't want to mess up. I did do one thing I remembered, and that is I created a boot floppy. Do I first copy the .exe BIOS file to this floppy?

Please provide me the steps, and make them as clear as you can. Pretend you're speaking to a child ;)

Thanx.

Depending on the manufaturer, all bios's can be flashed by creating a system disk, copy over the flash utility along with the newly downloaded bios file onto the floppy. Boot from that disk and run the flash utility. That's how it's done for most boards.

1. Make a bootable floppy.(right button on the drive a: symbol in your explorer >> fomat >> checck the box with systemfiles or msdos bootdisk...depends on your os)
2. get the bios files from epox Bios
3. extraxt the biosfile to your floppy a:
4.reboot your system
5.hit del key while booting to enter the bios setup
6.change the bootdevice to floppy (a:)
7.save changes
8.reboot
9.run the update.bat and follow the instructions

The Epox flashes have a batch file included with them. All you have to do to flash is extract the files to a floppy, and from the a: prompt, type "update"--without the quote marks--and hit the any key when it tells you it needs you to. Just follow the instructions it gives you--no sweat :)

Do any of you know how to make a boot disk from W2K? The only thing I found how to do was make the 4 start up disks for W2K. I need to flash my bios also!

Abit BX6r2 (have never updated the bios)

Thanks.

In a different thread there was a message that indicated to flash the bios before installing the CPU. How is this possible?
