Malwarebytes and Spybot are my #1 go-to pieces. Never a problem and have fixed several PC's with this software.

Good Luck!

Best software to check for Malware is as follows:

1) Combofix

2) Roguekiller

3) Malwarebytes

4) ADWCleaner

All freeware and excellent tools!

P.S. Run them all in Safe Mode if possible for best results.

I also like SuperAntiSpyware, they have free edition, too. I use it with SpyBot and MSE. The key is layers... what one program might miss, another should pickup.

I ditto Superantispy.......and using anti mals in concert.

And, while I've never run it, many true pundits here run MSE. My personal bias would lean more to your Kaspersky, tho.

If you ask 10 different people that you will be lucky if you only get 9 different answers. The key is to run as many good ones as you can. What one missed, the others usually pick up. I usually run Malwarebytes, Spybot, Combofix and then Super Anti-Spyware.

I agree, cept perhaps important to point out, Combofix is not for everyone, and in a different category than the others.

I have only used it on 2 incredibly infected systems belonging to friends. I consider it a last resort.

I have used it on countless occasions. It is an excellent program.

Who said otherwise? Not I, for sure. But again, Combofix is not in the same class as those listed in this thread which have no downsides for most people to run. And that, I think, is VERY important to make clear.

None of this is combat, yes?

In addition, TDSSKiller, which, now that TDSS is hardly ever found, is a good general rootkit finder with an odd name. Some trojans and hijackers still hide from MBAM, SAW, ADWC, etc., and AV clients, with the aid of rootkits that it can find and clean. There seemed to be a lull for the last year or two, but I've been seeing more of it, recently.

You did. Why would you only use it as a last resort?

There is another built into Windows that runs a scan every time there is a Windows Update - Malicious Software Removal Tool. It can also be downloaded and run at will. It works with MSE, and cohabits with Malwarebytes Pro for me, and probably others.

I don't think there are any bad ones - some work better for some folks than others.

You implied I felt it wasn't GOOD. yes.....U did.

Even the people who write it clearly share it must be run by people with experience, acuity and who know what they are doing. Because, it can have downsides. unlike the OTHERS LISTED HERE.

It is a powerful app.....and I employ it only as a last restotr. And....not for capricious reasons.

Again, I am not an angry, combative human.....and I am sad to see, hardly for the first time are trying to make any of this into some form of combat. Homey don play that.

(Of course, alas, neither do the NY KNICKS.:whiste:():))

I've personally run Combofix on hundreds of computers and never had an issue with it. I clean dozens of infected computers a week (15yrs. at the same job) as a computer technician. :)

1) I never said combofix was not excellent software. Quite the opposite.

2) I too have used it to clean heavily infected systems belonging to friends.

3) But even the architects of this powerful, excellent app say it is not for inexperienced puter owners, and, after tutorial, suggest the person post logs for perusal by an expert.

4) As I did early, on, not realizing same was true for even HiJack this.....i just learned to use it on my own.

5) It is not responsible to cavalierly list this app among the other garden variety ones for someone without experience. Because it could lead to harm. the potential is greater than with the garden variety apps.

As in medicine, first mandate is DO NO HARM.

Nothing complicated here in anything I posted, and I stand by all of it.

You have used the program twice. Why not leave the opinions to people who use it on a daily basis for years like myself or daveybrat?

Hitman Pro isn't free, but the trial works 100% for a month. It's far from the best, but it's super quick and in my use it does find things that none of the others do. If I'm doing a 1 time clean on a friends system I always run it. My combo

spybot
malwarebytes
superantispyware
hitmanpro
ccleaner
hijackthis

gotta be careful with hijackthis but there are tons of forums where if you post your log people will tell you what to remove and what to leave alone. I run Hitman 1st.

That said I would pay $$$ for an AIO that did everything all the ones I listed do. I know that's just a dream but it would be worth my hard earned cash.

I would just like to add this warning from Majorgeeks regarding the use of Combofix.

"You should not run ComboFix unless you are specifically asked to by a helper. Also, due to the power of this tool it is strongly advised that you do not attempt to act upon any of the information displayed by ComboFix without supervision from someone who has been properly trained. If you do so, it may lead to problems with the normal functionality of your computer. It is also understood that the use of ComboFix is done at your own risk."

Ya, I always liked that. A tool that has no user control or settings whatsoever other than to execute it should only be run by professionals.
