My boss (I work in a computer store) says that the Pentium4-M (1.8Ghz) is faster then a Centrino 1.7. Can you guys tell the difference? I heard somebody say on this board that the Centrino 1.7 should perform something like a P4 2.4Gz. Is this true?
I'd like some benchmarks if possible comapring a Centrio to other processors.

Thanks!

I initially read your post too quickly so here's the edited version.

Your boss is incorrect. First, there is no such thing as a centrino processor.

Centrino (also called Centrino Mobile Technology) is a marketing initiative from Intel for a particular combination of CPU, mainboard chipset and wireless network interface in the design of a laptop personal computer. The combination currently consists of a Pentium M processor, the Intel 855 chipset family, and an Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 (IEEE 802.11b) or PRO/Wireless 2200 (IEEE 802.11bg) network connection.

The Pentium M is much faster than a Pentium4-M cpu. The 1.7GHz Pentium M is close to the performance of the 2.6GHz Pentium4-M.

Yeah - Centrino is an entire system involving the Pentium processor. It's greatest drawing card is power conservation.

Centrino is just P-M with wireless !!

Just a marketing scheme...nothing special

The P-M is capable of run with A64 in games...

a pentium 4 m is different than a pentium m. a pentium m (centrino) would decimate a pentium 4 m. the pentium 4 m would be a 2 year old processor though

Guys I need proof that the Pentium M is different from the Pentium 4-M. The guy just doesn't believe me. I knew it was a compeltly new CPU, but he wouldn't believe me. Is there any articles that prove that the Penitum M is a differnt CPU? Thanks for the bench marks though!

Nevermind guys, I got it. Go Anandtech!
