Can someone send me disc 2 of Battlefield 2?

I bought it from Sam's today and the second disc doesn't seem to be working...it's pretty far to drive tonight and I'm wanting to play... I just need the one main cab file on that disc.

data3.cab I think. The prob is that the install starts and goes until it is ready for disc 2. It says it's trying to load FuShe_Pass\client.zip...I put disc 2 in the drive and it never continues the install. I'm assuming the file is corrupt.

Did you see if the disc is clean? One of my HL2 discs right out of the box wouldn't work. There was something on it (it actually looked like it was scratched up) that I was able to wipe off. Worked fine after that.

Yeah...It's spotless... I was able to copy the file to my hard drive and even burn a copy of the files to another cd... The install just doesn't go any further.

I'm on a Dell 4700 P4 2.8Ghz so it's enough of a system to handle the game.

You should be able to install the game whether it's on a 2.8 or a 900MHz. Installing isn't that hard. Installing just extracts data from the CD, copies it to the HDD, registers the locations of some files. It's not much more complicated than drag-and-drop from a floppy to your desktop, most of the time. Sometimes some installers actually have to compile uncompiled information from the CD, but even then it would just take longer on a lower machine. As far as the installer just not working, have you tried doing the same with the first install CD? I remember having a hell of a time with Jedi Outcast. I was able to install off of the image I ripped from the install CD, but not directly from the CD itself.

He's referring to obtaining an otherwise illegal copy if you had not purchased the game. :p

Well....my cd key is what really cost me $45, not the cd itself...it's sad that I can't install it...grrr. When running the installer, it specifically has to obtain the files from the cd location...it won't install from a local directory on the hard drive....this sucks...

Use something like Daemon Tools, rip the CD to an iso, and try that.

What the installer does is check the location of where the installer was loaded from. When the install launches, it says "where am I being loaded from? Oh, the D: drive? Okay, when I need the second disk for install, I'm going to look to the D: drive first."

Most installers give you the option of where to tell the installer to look for additional installation media, but that's only because the software designers built the installer to function that way. Some programmers choose not to put that much effort into it, so they only give the installer the option of reading from the initial installation location.

That being said, if you put all of the .cab files and other files required by the installer into one folder on your desktop, including the installer itself (setup.exe, most of the time), whe you launch the installer, it will see that it's being launched from location C:\windows\desktop or whatever. When it gets to the break in the install that tells the installer to prompt for the next installation media, it will check that same location for the next bit of data and will see that it's in the same location and continue with the install.

Kinda like *instantly* switching CDs.

I can't imagine programmers designing an installer that is hard-coded to look at the D: drive... what if the user has their optical drive assigned to the H: drive letter?

...either that or I'm WAY off. :p

Just download a copy and use your legally-purchased CD key - that has to be semi-legal.

You're legally allowed to make 1 copy for backup purposes only. If you transfer possession of the copyrighted CD to someone else, you must either destroy the backup or give the backup to the person who's obtaining possession of the original.

That's what I'd think....but when I clicked on the file in the folder on my desktop, it asked me to insert disc 1.

Try installing in Safe Mode. Many times background processes interfere with installation programs. Your disc still may be bad, but trying in safe mode wouldn't hurt.
