Can someone recommend me a good sci-fi book?

I'm looking for a new book to read. I recently read Hyperion and Fall of Hyperion by Dan Simmons, which I loved. I usually read a lot of action/thriller/mystery type books, so Hyperion was a great change of pace. Can anyone recommend anything similar that I might enjoy? Some other sci-fi books I've enjoyed are "Snow Crash", "Bladerunner," and the "March" series (Upcountry, to the Sea, and to the Stars) by David Webber and John Ringo.

Not quite along those lines, but I enjoyed Tuf Voyaging, a collection of short stories by George R. R. Martin. They're all about Haviland Tuf, as he goes into a career as ecological engineer. I recommend checking out his short story collection as well, which have a variety of sci-fi and fantasy.

Actually, I recommend anything from Weber. If you want a short series, check out his Heirs of Empire series which starts with Mutineer's Moon.

Hmm, Hyperion was definitely different from most SF, but these might do:

L.E. Modesitt Jr. - Hammer of Darkness, Adiamante, Timediver's Dawn
Somtow Sucharitkul - Utopia Hunters, Light On the Sound (get them used at Amazon)

For more military SF, Apathetic's Heirs of Empire suggestion is a good one, along with David Drake's Forlorn Hope and The General series with SM Stirling.

Apathetic: Yea, I was actually thinking of getting "Path of the Fury" from David Weber.

The original version of The Fury was a fun read, I haven't read this new expanded version. See above for a couple of other recommendations.

The only one i've ever read that you listed was Snowcrash.

If you liked that, check out Cryptonomicon, The Diamond Age, and Zodiac, also by Neal Stephenson. If you like the cyberpunk type books, check out William Gibson's books, particularly Neuromancer.

Tad Williams has a great series called Otherland.

I tried to read Cryptonomicon and The Diamond Age and I just didn't like then. I loved Snowcrash though.

Alright. I'm totally in love with the Halo game series. :p Yes, I have all the books written pertaining to the game and story line. I will say that I do not normally read, but I have found these books to be very enjoyable.

I have enjoyed them so much in fact, I'm thinking about heading to my local Barnes & Noble to buy something new to read. :Q
