Can someone recommend a good text to speech program

Hey all, I'm looking for a good text to speech converter program. I have a friend who just got their jaw wired shut and isn't suposed to try and talk for 2 weeks. Right now my friend is using a white board to communicate and I was thinking a good txt to speech program would make communicating a little easier.

I've found a few on download.com but they computer generated voices aren't that easy to understand so I was wondering if anyone knows a txt to speech program that's easy to use and has a clear voice.

thanks

Thanks but this won't be a life long disability, she's only wired for 2 weeks and just needs something to help through these weeks.

I hope it will not be lifelong. Anything you get elsewhere will not be what you want. since it is only 2 weeks, may I suggest that you live with the not 100% perfect sounding free versions? It is certainly cheaper.

The one that comes with Windows XP is not to bad.

do you mean the narrator utility? I tried using that but it's a bit hard to understand because it anouces every thing you do...like all the mouse overs and it announces every time you hit the space bar.

oh yea, that's exactly what I'm looking for just some freeware utility since it's only for 2 weeks. But I can tell she's pretty depressed out of her mind after her surgery so I just wanted to find the best freeware utility that I can find...Right now I'm download all the ones off download.com and trying them out. I was just hoping someone here might know of one that's really good.

I'm not sure what to use, but why was it shut? Is she having a surgery or something?

Oh yea, she had a under bite so her teeth weren't line up correctly which made it hard for her to eat. So they reduced the size of her lower jaw. Now her jaw will be wired shut for 4 weeks untill the bones heal. Her doctors told her not to try and talk for 2 weeks because she might break a band holding her jaw closed.
