Can someone recommend a good radar detector?

Exactly. Anything other than a V1 or Escort 8500 is just throwing your money away. If you can't afford one of those, then don't get a radar detector at all.

I disagree. I've saved myself at least 3 tickets that i can think of off the top of my head by having mine.

Not exactly. I was doing around 100 in Oklahoma behind these two other guys and the cop pulled us all over.

My $40 whistler gave me heads up on CHP on the drive back from work just now.

I wasn't speeding at the time, but it's always nice to know when someone is watching.

People who say cheap radar detectors don't work, probably haven't used enough of them. Most do, but it's more how annoyed and how much trouble you have to go through to decipher the beeps.

My current one is pretty good though, I can shut off the bands most likely to false. I've used a top of the line 300+ beltronics 980 and it's not really much better than my $40 whistler.

thats great and all but its 2004 now, almost 2005. The passport 8500 x50 is just as good if not better for $100 less.

nm just saw you had to pay for that article.

Read this instead. They test 5 different radar detectors all under $100
