Can someone recommend a FREE easy 2 use DVD ripper that converts into mpeg2, divx, avi, etc?

well, you need to rip the disc to your HD first....then encode it into DivX.....good link

I would use something like dvd decrypter to rip to hd. Then load it up in daemon and then convert it to whatever. You could use TMPGEnc which is free. If your making svcds or avi's you could use dvd2svcd. Just go on http://www.dvdrhelp.com and http//:www.doom9.org and read some of those tutorials.

thanks for the reply, i just want to be able to take some clips from a dvd, convert them into mpeg or avi to put in powerpoint, this is for church and the sermon....i would appreciate any help you can give....as a matter of fact i was just playing with TMPGEnc...it seems I had to do it twice...? I took the vob file that i extracted from dvd shrink, then it split it into an mp2v file and wave file, then i had to use it again to mush them together as an mpeg2,....i suppose there is a single method or quicker way, but i am new to the program...and the final file....the video locked up but the audio kept playing....?????

I do quite a bit of exactly what you are looking to do,, the link listed above www.dvdrhelp.com is where i learned to do it, I used sefys beginner tutorial and went from there. all the info and links to the programs you will need are on that site the basics are as follows


1. rip the data from the dvd to the hard drive, to do this you will need a dvd player and a software ripper, there are several that work well personally i use a program named smartripper the link to which can be found at above site

2. you have to run a second program to creata a d2v file, this is if you use tmpgenc to do your encoding this second program is called dvd2avi, a link to it can also be found on the link above

3. Encode the d2v file to whatever output you want be it avi, mpeg etc.
