Looking for best bang for buck. Absolutely be less than $50 total. I was looking at a 7100gs or possibly 6600 as I can find those for around $40. Going to be paired with very cheap set up with x2 3600 or p4 3ghz.

Thanks

I would suggest the 6600 if you can get it for that much. A used or open box 6800 or 7600 might be a good idea too.

I highly suggest the X2 3600+ over any Pentium 4.

If you don't have a mobo yet, have you thought about integrated graphics? the amd 690 is supposed to be the fastest IGP out there (granted, it's still a good bit slower than a 6200...).

Based on the cards you asked about and your budget, it seems like you don't plan on gaming which is why I suggest an IGP (if you do plan on gaming then ignore this post), that way you can put $50 towards something else...

NOTHING UNDER $50 WILL GIVE U BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK. the bang for the buck cards now are the 8800gts until the r600 comes out. under $50 you're better off using some PCI video card or integrated graphics.

That's not true... A 6600GT would let him play a lot of games out there on a budget rig -just not the latest games or with a whole lot of eye candy. I know a guy who still plays WoW and HL2 on a 9700pro, and they both work fine. If someone is buying a video card for only $50, chances are they aren't spending $40-60 for the latest games. It's more likely that they are hitting the bargain/used bin at a local retailer. You can find FarCry for around $10 in a bargain bin, and it would be a good game at 1024x768 for someone with a 6600GT.

If I was in your shoes, I'd check out ebay...

PCIe 6600GTs look like they are pretty easy to pick up for under $50 shipped... I just did a search for "6600gt pci", and found quite a few. An X800XL or Pro would not be a bad card to pick up either. I found a good number of those on ebay as well by searching for "X800 pci". Actually, if you can find a good X800XL, that would be my recommendation, as it is a faster card than the 6600GT. IIRC, the X800 Pro falls somewhere between the two.
