Try to find a Rio 500.

Used on ebay they go for around 50 bucks.

Pop in some extra memory, download the upgrade, and you have one of the best mp3 players out there.. much better then a lot of the new crud going around

I use mine all the time. Works great.

I like my solid state Sonic Blue Diamond Rio 600, but you need at least 64 MB. I don't think they make this model anymore, but you can still find it on the web.

Pros:
Backlit LED
Easy to navigate menus
Decent neoprene case with belt clip
MP3 and WMA files (no proprietary software interface)
Flash ROM
Weighs very little.
Close to 10 hours of playlife on 1 AA battery

Cons:
Proprietary memory - expensive, and I think they stopped making it. I'm debating on whether to find more memory on eBay or just buy a new player (mine is 32MB).
Battery life indicator unreliable

I've been looking at the iRiver IFP-180T 128MB solid state MP3/WMA player w/FM tuner and Voice Recorder. $140 at Best Buy. The 64MB version is cheaper of course.

Please let me know what you decide on and why.

I am going to stay away from RIO. They make some good products but their customer service is so terrible I refuse to support them

The iriver slimx sounds nice for 140.. but its not upgradeabel... non of their players are.. leaving me to think.... WTF? they would be the best if you could add memory..

Also, I really need something that can be run with.
