So yea I'm now in retail and have no chairs on my work floor so I have to stand/walk around the sales floor for 8 hrs a day.. it sucks. But anyway, I need to know of some good shoe inserts, or in-soles whatever you call them.. and possibly some shoes that people reccomend.

I currently have the Dr. Scholl's brand inserts and they suck, I don't know if there are multiple kinds but I got the $8 pair at walmart. I need something different.

I like my current shoes, but I am open to new shoe suggestions as well. I tried on some Steve Madden's that really didn't work for me. I think I might try some Rockports.. I found a really really comfy pair the other day but they were beyond ugly. And the nicer looking ones were not comfortable :( .. Anyway. any suggestions would really be appreciated. My feet really hurt. Thanks

I've heard good things about superfeet brand.. can anybody argue against them?

Edit: Forgot to mention this is for dress shoes.. because I wear the shirt/tie/dockers/dress shoes combo.

I recommend getting some New Balances. When I worked in an amusement park and was on my feet and walking for 8+ hours a day, my pair of NBs saved my feet.

Redwing makes dress shoes with an energy absorbing sole. They work very well.

If you are standing in one place (register) most of the time ask for one of those energy absorbing floor mats behind the counter. They work better than any insole.

We have those floor mats and they do wonders.. but a lot of the time I'm walking around the sales floor on a very hard floor.

Cell phone salesman?

I've used Dr. Scholls when I had shin splints from running when I played soccer (so this is 15 years ago). I thought they were fantastic, but the ones I had were $20 so maybe they make different quality/thickness?

Good guess.. yep cell phone sales.

The Dr. Scholls weren't too bad the first few days.. but standing/walking 8 hrs a day killed them in a matter of days.. the areas where my feet apply pressure to the insert they are smushed so they do me no good anymore. I can't afford to buy them in bulk :p

I'm checking into those Redwings, ironwing.. thanks for the tip.

What kind of Dr. Scholl's inserts? I used the double-thick foam inserts, and while they're quite soft, they also don't last very long. The gel inserts were not quite as cushy, but by the time I'd worn through the foam ones, my feet had started to adjust to the harsher life of retail work.

I got the gel kind.. rubber/gel they are aqua blue on the bottom and gray on top.. they worked ok but got worn out reallly fast. I am getting more used to the floor but I'd still like to purchase some quality inserts.

The best footwear I've found by a very large margin has been...the heads of my customers. Oh! I'm sorry! Your total was .000005 cents more than you had calculated in your head? Guess what! I don't set how our POS system sets taxes! My bad, dude - I didn't mean to bitch at your little bastard child who just knocked over an elderly shopper. Here's a leash free of charge!

Seriously, though...either vans or wolverines for me. That's about it.

Seriously, go to a well respected podiatrist and have him make casts of your feet so you can get a good pair of orthodics fitted for you.

It will cost but it is well worth it. Forget the store bought, over the counter stuff.

i went to the Walking Store to get inserts.. they sold me 60$ ortho approved inserts... which i think would be good and all if they didnt feel so damn lumpy

i couldnt stand wearing them, so instead of spending 60$ for a pair of inserts for old shoes i bought a 100$ pair of Born Giles .. they look very discreet-casual (all black) and are comfy

i sencond the double-foam padding. it's like $3 at walmart. cut them in half and you have a free 2nd pair. (your toes dont need the cushioning. just the heel and arches.)
