I have installed three of these for friends and family and they love them:

I would not recommend using window sensors. PIR motion detectors (http://www.homesecuritystore.com/p-1467-ws4904p-dsc-wireless-pet-immune-pir-motion-sensor.aspx) placed at strategic locations defeat the need for window sensors.

Secondly, if you don't have a land line, you will be paying big bucks for either a cellular phone communicator (http://www.homesecuritystore.com/p-503-gs3060-gsm-universal-wireless-alarm-communicator.aspx) or a intenet based communicator (http://www.homesecuritystore.com/p-1475-t-linktl250-dsc-tl250-internet-alarm-communicator.aspx). Also, the alarm monitoring service you decide to use (I use www.alarmrelay.com) will charge you extra per month if you want cellphone/internet monitoring instead of the normal land line monitoring.

This DSC kit is a hybrid hardwire/wireless. The door contacts and Infrared motion detectors are wireless. So these just get installed in the areas you want them and you don't have to mess with running wires back to the panels. Also, this unit comes with Keyless FOB's (like the remote door lock/unlock units that come with cars) so you can just push a button on your FOB and your alarm will turn on/off. Very usefull when coming home and your hands are full of groceries and you need to disarm.

However, the Keypad (which also houses the antennas for the wireless detectors), bell (siren), telephone, alarm panel all are wired and are all attached together.

But I have to tell ya, if you don't plan (at least) spending two weeks reading up on the alarm web forums and pouring over the manual for this thing you will be hopelessly lost... They aren't user friendly at all to program. And you will be spending on the high side of that $600 as well if you need multiple wiresless PIR/door contacts.

You will learn more than you ever need to know here: http://www.diysecurityforum.com/ This is where I started.

I'd recommend you hire an installer to do the work for you. You can go with one of the nationwide chains (Devcon, ADT, etc...) and they typically won't charge you for the equipment in lieu of signing a two year monitoring agreement. Or you can look for an independent low-voltage installer. Lot of smaller mom and pop Home Audio video dealers install alarm system.

I also wanted to add that DSC is top of the line when it comes to alarm equipment. Part of the problem I first had was figuring out what manufacturer to use and then stick to that for research.

So once I decided to go with DSC I just stuck to the DSC forum and ignored the rest of them on that site. It really helped removed that "overwhelming feeling" of starting a new project when I could focus on one thing instead of every thread on that whole forum.

Anyway, good luck. If ever have any more questions shoot me an IM.

thanks again man. Looks like 1000$ for all the stuff I want. Im looking at the 2GIG Go! with an extra pad and some driveway motion sensors. I know what you mean about being overwhelmed.
