Can someone quantify this difference to me?

Processor: Intel Pentium Dual Core E6700 (3.20GHz 2MB)

Processor: Intel Core i3-2100 (3.1GHz , 3 MB Cache)

Everything else being equal, how much faster is the i3 than the dual core e6700. I understand clockspeed doesn't equal speed of processor exactly.

Well 15% better at similar clockspeed would mean a 3.1ghz i3 would be like an 3.565ghz Petium dual core....I dont know if I would say much better....so over a 3.2ghz PDC that would be a little more then 10%.

I have always long felt 10% is about neglible, and I wouldn't upgrade a system for anything less then 30% improvement....

My last systems....

A64 to a X2 4400+
x2 4400+ to a E6400@3.4ghz
E6400@3.4ghz to dual opteron 265's at 275 speed (not much ocing options)
dual opterons to QX6700ES at 3.2ghz
QX6700ES to i2500K@4.5ghz

For typical daily use probably wouldn't notice much difference.

But if you're seriously stressing it, such as for video encoding, you're going to see about 35-40% faster results with the i3 (partly due to IPC, partly due to the HT that gives you more 'cores' than the Pentium offers).
