can someone point me towards a good car rental deal?

I need a rental for one day next week and the cheapest price I can find is $40 before taxes. Anyone have any tips?

Hi Gooddad. Try using hotwire or priceline. That'll get you the best deals.
Once I got a full size car for 18.50/day. But that was only once tho.

Rented a MiniVan in San Diego a yaer ago foir $169 for the week (8 days actually)

a few times, but thats not why I need a rental. I have to drive across the state this week and I dont want to take the blue bomber. Priceline actuallly came back with a higher price than if I had just used the car rental's site.

do you have AAA or are you a member of any professional organizations? often you can get discounts if you tell the rental place.

Renting a car for one day is always a ripoff. The good discounts come in when you rent for a week or longer.

if you have a certain mechanic you deal with, ask him to call the rental place for you.. usually if the mechanic and the rental place are on good terms, they'll give you a discount

AAA always had recommendations and discounts when we went in to pick up trip ticks.
