Here are the lyrics. So Far Away Lyrics

this is my life
its not what it was before
all these feelings i've shared
and these are my dreams
that i'd never lived before
somebody shake me
cuz i
i must be sleeping

[chorus]
now that we're here,
it's so far away
all the struggle we thought was in vain
all in the mistakes,
one life contained
they all finally start to go away
now that we're here its so far away
and i feel like i can face the day i can forgive
and i'm not ashambed to be the person that i am today

these are my words
that i've never said before
i think i'm doing okay
and this is the smile
that i've never shown before

somebody shake me cuz i
i must be sleeping

[chorus]

i'm so afraid of waking
please don't shake me
afraid of waking
please don't shake me

Just wondering if anyone knew what the song was about.

I'm a little confused on the lyrics.

It's about getting where you want to be, and finally achieving your dreams/goals.

Which is strange, because the song itself is pretty somber.

It's about wanting something so bad, but when you obtain it, you realize it wasn't what you wanted. And what you want is actually still far away. He says in the beginning, somebody shake me. Then, in the middle, "now that we're here its so far away"
And at the end, he says, please dont shake me. It makes sense that he has finally achieved what he wanted, but realizes it was never true. Yes, it's a very somber song.

It's about accepting the fact that you're the lead singer of a mediocre rock group, because you have fame and fortune to console you.

It is a mixture between longing and contentment. What does a person do, once they have accomplished their goals in life? Once they have overcome the filth, pain and mistakes that mar our past?

Some of us discover that the goal itself is meaningless; those pretty pieces of paper plastered on one's walls won't stop your wife from cheating on you. The money in your wallet doesn't stop Death from stealing away your loved ones. We undertake most things in this world with our eyes on the prestige or happiness the product will attain for us.

One day, we attain that which we desire. We've all graduated from high school, college, graduate school; those shining moments, where you are at the apex of your youth, the height of your success. Yet despite all the happiness present at those moments, we all go home at the end. We fall asleep, and wake up on the morrow with the same bed, the same body, the same morning breath and rumpled hair that we've always had.

I am not ashamed to be the person I am today, mindful of the things I have accomplished and the pain I have endured. I have my goals, lofty and realistic, things I work towards. But these are not the core of who I am. I look forward to tomorrow, and the experiences and joys it brings. Anything beyond that is ephemeral, and incidental.

Shalom!
Nate

Staind is excellent, I haven't heard of one bad song from them. I have all of their old cds too. You should listen to their first cd, it's some hard sh!t.

I agree with the interpretations expressed concerning achieving your goals and finding out that they aren't what you thought they were.

However, this song has a very personal meaning to me. I think the song could be about a friendship that endures life, and hardship.

Just my opinion though...
