Can someone please recommend some boards with onboard everything for a 1.7GHz P4?

Look for a board with the chipset P4M266. This is a VIA all in one board. It will have DDR, on-board sound, video, and ethernet.

I think SiS also has a board like this but I think the P4M266 boards will be cheaper.

So go to pricewatch.com and type in P4M266 and see what comes up.
 
Just looked at Pricewatch.com and forund a Shuttle MV42N that has the P4M266 mATX board for only $56 plus shipping.
The board can take either Sdram or DDR. I would use DDR so you don't choke the CPU or Video card.
But Mwave.com is the dealer that has this board and they are a good place to order from.

This should do everthing you need and the board is made by a good company, Shuttle
