I've heard of the names Parker and Cross but I'm not sure if they're good brands or not. Any ideas?

Yes, I do too but I'd like to get one that I can keep for a while and not ditch it once the ink runs out.

Lamy pens are wonderful. I have one of these, a fountain pen, and besides from having style, it's quite resilient.

Bic. Ballpoint pens beat fountain pens if you ask me.... They certainly leak less often.

Quill makes some decent cheap ballpoints.

I like a finer point myself. Smoother writing, I can't stand ball points because the ink comes out inconsistently, and will often times require that you "scribble" real quick to get the ink flowing.
