Hi Guys,

I bought a 97 civic hatchback not long ago and have just saved enough money to put in some speakers. I have tried to get a set of 6x9 Pioneer speakers from Good Guys for the rear but they turn out "not fitting" into the back slot. In specific, the plastic cover would not go back on because the tweeter sticks out. Can anyone who have experience buying or installing these please give me some advice on what can I do? Or should I try to find some speakers whose tweeters don't stick out as much? Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks alot,
Mark.

If you look at the manufacturer's website or a site like Crutchfield they will list a spec of tweeter protrusion. Let that be your guide.....

Crutchfield should be able to tell you what depth your car will allow.

Hope this helps.

Maybe you can just put on the grilles that came with the speakers and let them sit there on the back deck without the plastic covers on them.

you got the wrong grilles bring them back. have an audio guy there check it out; then the cust service person will have proof and you wont have to fight to get new grilles. their are 4 usual tweeter protrusions that i know of for 6x9's 0, 1/16,3/8, 3/4. ime guessin you got 1/16 when you were supposed to get 0. it is pretty common. sometimes you get opened boxed stuff that is resealed and sold as new.

I even tried just use te grille that came with the speakers and not the cover with car...still couldn't fit in. : (

Chickendinner, how do you find speakers with non-protruding tweeters? I was told to find speakers whose tweeters don't stick out but no idea of where to look.

so far, I have tried installig the speakers without the speaker grille, which the car cover doesn't fit back on. I have also tried with speaker grille an no cover but still don't fit on it. I am wondering if the civic hatchbacks are just weird in its own way and if anybody else here had to deal with similar situation...
