so the 'rents have decided they want to have the tv in the center of the room, which means over the fireplace, fine by me, just have to buy a new tv. that leaves a few options - flat panel tvs = lcd, dlp and plasma or a projector.
my personal choice is for a projector as the bang for the buck is incredible, but they're a lil worried cuz the room has windows on 2 sides and is never really dark, which makes them want to go for a flat panel.
mom was in sams club today, calls me about a plasma tv that's 1800 - i immediately realize its an edtv, which since they have both seen hd pictures, realize they want an hdtv. this tv is the one they saw and the guy said 'oh, it will do hd, u just have to have the box from your cable company'. somehow, i don't think that's quite all there is to it, but after reading the website, i'm not sure still, so can someone help me out here? tia!

The tuner for HD will output whatever resolution you tell it too. So you just set the tuner to output 480p (EDTV)

The quailty is no where near what "real" HD is (720p and 1080i) but it still looks very good and DVDs will look great as well.
