hello there everyone i am atekk..u can call me tekk if ya like evryone does.. i am new to the forums here and i have a few questions that i am very anxious to have answered...first off let me fill everyone in on my dillemma...i am trying to get rid of my current PC cuz id like to do an upgrade of ENORMUS proportions because id like higher fps during gameplay, and a higher 3d mark score. my current PC is as follows and scores roughly an 11000 at best in 3dmark

AMD Athlon XP 2000+
MSI KT3 ULTRA2 (KT333)
VISIONTEK GF4 Ti4200 128mb
512mb DDR333 Kingston Valueram
That should be enuff info for what i am asking about.

OPTION 1...new mobo supporting 8x, new memory (ddr400) no new cpu or vidcard

Now i have several questions here and they are as follows...
1. (the BIG question)is a chipset supporting AGP8x worth the money? will it show significant increase in FPS without a vidcard upgrade?
2. KT400 or Nforce2? (if 8x is infact worth upgrading to)

OPTION 2...new cpu supporting 333 fsb, new vidcard, no new mobo or memory

Now i Also have sevral questions here , lol , they are as follows...
1.(the other BIG question)..im gunna hate myself for asking this, ATI 9500pro or its GF FX competitor (unsure on the model #)
2. would either of the above mentioned cards lose performance on my current mainboard..as it is not capable of APG8x?

the best way to get better gameplay is out of a new cpu and vidcard

agp x is pretty much a non-issue at this point, expecially with such large amounts of memory on the card

new mobo isn't going to help anything, neither is ram that is capable of running than your cpu actually is anyway

i would say if you're lookign to upgrade, don't even bother witha cpu upgrade and buy the best card you can (such as a radeon 9700Pro)

dang man, the system that you are wanting to upgrade is alot faster than the system that i just updated it to.

option 1 questions
1. agp offers insignificant improvement over agp 4x, not worth it to upgrade
2. nforce 2 over kt400, better sound and features

option 2 questions
1. your 4200 will last you at least another year if you want to wait, you could probably pick up a 9700 for 100 by the time you actually need it. 9500s main competitor is the geforcefx 5600
2. no

option 1: 8x AGP wont give you any signigicant FPS increase BUT i recommend nforce2 over KT400 and i believe all nforce2's have 8x agp support anyway

option 2: 9500 pro is better than the nvidia counterpart

welcome to the forums
