I'm currently using 5.8 which came with my x1900xt. I know that the only other catalysts I can use are 5.13

So I uninstall mine use driver cleaner and boot to install cat 5.13 beta from guru3d to check them out.
What I notice is that I cannot install 5.13,as it tells me that the inf file is not supported. I cannot even install fisrt the standard vga driver!!
Only through my cd I can install my 5.8 directly.

So what is going on here am I doing something wrong? I want to check 5.13 but I can't find a way to install them.

*Is there any specific version of 5.13 that I have to install? (I'm using a beta 5.13 from guru3d)

dont bother.
wait for the official drivers, they should be out in a few days with much better support and performance increases! ATI do a monthly release and are due one around now, but you knew that already.
alternativley you could try the omega drivers. i think the 6.1's have 1900 support.

What I don't seem to understand is why I can't install the 5.13
Is there any specific version that I'll have to download? And why on earth whne I uninstall the 5.8 and try to set the standard vga driver I cannot find it? Too weird never happened to me b4 all these years...

I think if you push the button behind the cat's right ear, it'll go to sleep.

Anyone else think this when they read the title?

Click here to get the Catalyst 6.1 + INF file needed to install them.

When you extract the files, put the INF file (found in cx_29602.zip) in the ATi directory and let it override the existing INF file. Once you do that, go into your device manager, right click on the unknown vga display and choose to reinstall drivers. Then manually find the directory you extracted the 6.1 drivers + INF file to and install them.

Alternatively you can just use Omega's drivers but I don't like his stuff, too much bloatware.

BTW I didn't include the CCC with that download so if you want it you can get it from ATi's website. Although I'd recommend you just go straight to Guru3D and pick up ATi Tray Tools since the newest one supports X1900 cards. If you opt to use ATi Tray Tools just make sure that you click on the checkbox that says, "disable overclocking" when installing it.

ATI tools beta 12 works just fine with my current drivers..

6.1 though I managed to install them everything seemed to be installed correctly but I cannot run a single 3d application.. :| (Direct draw conflicts)

Do I have to install the latest CCC as well in order for them to work correctly or not? I'm asking since I haven't used ATI drivers for a long time now...

Anyway I'm sick of this.. I'll format when the new official drivers will be here to be sure about everything... Even with these drivers I'm having issues in HL2 engine based games.. So it can be a leftover from previous nvidia drivers (though I was very cautious during the uninstallation and used driver cleaner and registry cleaner ) or some games need to be reinstalled in order to work correctly.

Thanks anyway

Well since I'm such a nice guy I copied the drivers that came off the CD I got with my XTX and posted them: Click to download them.

I'm surprised you couldn't get the Catalyst 6.1 to install properly for you. Anyway, go ahead and give the above drivers a shot after cleaning out whatever you have right now (do it in safe mode) and then just format when the Catalyst 6.2 are released.

I've used a couple of ATI cards, always followed the pattern below and have never had problems with driver changes.

Changing ATI Drivers
To get the latest Catalyst (CCC & driver) package, go here:
<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=27">https://support.ati.com/ics/support/......tID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=27</a> Windows XP Drivers and Software >Radeon
>Catalyst 6.xx Windows XP - Driver Download. Get the package, release notes and uninstaller mentioned below.
Read Notes. You need XP SP2 and .Net Framework. If you don?t have the .NET stuff, follow the link and install it before going any further.
After having .NET v1.1 installed ?

1. Start >Control Panel >Add or Remove Programs >ATI Catalyst Control Center >Remove.
2. Do not Restart when prompted.
3. ATI Display Driver >Remove.
4. Restart when prompted.
5. Upon return to Desktop in Windows Standard display, cancel offer to install drivers.
6. Start >Run >browse to where you downloaded the new ATI Catalyst driver package and run it.
If the above doesn?t work out, download this util: ATI Catalyst uninstaller
<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=27">https://support.ati.com/ics/support/......tID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=27</a> Utilities >Various >CATALYST ? ATI Maintenace Utilities
>cat-uninstaller.exe This will clean your system of any ATI software along with any remnants that could be causing problems.
Use it instead of steps 1, 2 and 3 above; then continue with steps 4, 5 and 6.

Happy trailz,
