Between the dv1000 and ze2000 can anyone recomend which one to get? I like the wide screen on the dv1000 but dont like all the blue lights it looks to "busy" to me. I mainly will be using it for wireless internet, word processing, photoshop, web design, flash, dreamweaver ect, downloading music, making movies and so on. The two laptops look pretty similar, are there any major differences in them?Any help is appreciated. Also what is the biggest external display i could use with either one? I know they have shared video memory. Does that affect its ability to use big 20 inch lcd displays externally?

it would be nice to know who makes each model, its specs, and price. I am way too lazy to look it up.

also, please don't re-post the exact same thread twice. It just annoys people and makes them want to reply less.

Make, model? I would have thought thatd be obvious. Hp makes both of those models of course. I wouldnt re post if my question had been answered in the first place.

The ze2000 is a brand new model, so most people haven't seen it yet. Basically, you're looking at the difference in the size of the notebook. The ze2000 is going to be closer in size to the old ze4000 & ze5000 series. All use a 15" XGA screen, which IMO just doesn't work for a notebook. The dv1000 is not very busy with the blue lights, my gf just ordered one and it is nice. I configured the two and with the same stuff, the ze2000 was $50 less. IMO, I would go for the dv1000. The speakers on it are very nice for a laptop and the QuickPlay system looks cool (haven't used it yet). I like the widescreen format personally over the crappy looking 15" XGA. My gf also had a ze4325 b4 this one and I didn't like the screen one bit. Regardless, definitely get the 12-cell battery. She gets 7 hours on average, 5 hours watching DVDs. :Q
If you want something with the "bigger" screen, then I guess the ze2000. But the smaller, wider screen with more dots per inch looks nice to me (more desktop real estate IMO).
The shared video shouldn't effect external displays. Check the product's specs for the max supported external resolution. Should be at least 1600x1200.

Also, definitely go with a Pentium M 1.6 or 1.7 given the applications you listed. Go with 256MB out of the box and drop in a 512MB, or two 512MB even. I would go for the 40GB drive and sell it, replacing it with a 7200 RPM. It seems like you are running intensive apps but want a basic model, so upgrades like this will be worthwhile for your uses.
