Can Someone Help Me?

Hi, today I got parts for my new computer but I cannot get into the BIOS and I do not hear a beep. Can you guys please help me find out whats wrong? Right now I only have the graphics card, cpu, and ram installed, but when I press the power button, I do not hear a beep. The only thing that happens is the fans start to turn. The first time I tried to power on the computer with only those three components installed, I heard a very long beep and I immediately disconnected the power supply. Also, on the motherboard there is one hole for a standoff that i did not put a screw in, but the problem is there is no place on the case for me to attach one? Do you guys think that is the problem. Is the problem the motherboard? The parts are:

CPU:e6400, MB:Gigabyte 956P-DS3, GPU: Evga 8800gts, PSU😱CZ Gamexstream 600W, RAM:2x1GB Crucial Ballistix, CASE:Antec p180.

All of your help would be much appreciated, thanks.

The first thing you should do is clear the CMOS & try powering up again... if the same thing happens then (1 long beep) then most likely you have a memory problem.

The next step would be to try only installing 1 DIMM at a time .... many motherboards will only POST with 1 DIMM, but then when you manually set the RAM timings to spec, you can install the second one & it will work fine.

Whats the spec voltage on your ram? You may have to borrow a stick of ram to get it to boot, then manually set voltage to spec and update the bios.

Thanks for the replies, Ill go try clearing the CMOS and using one DIMM. THe spec voltage is 2.2V.

That's what I figured, this has been an all to common problem with the P965 boards and highend overclocking memory. The board with the shipping bios only gives 1.8v default at startup, and the memory can't run at that voltage, an updated bios will fix this, unforetunately you can't flash the bios until you get the machine to boot.

The easiest fix is to put a cheap stick of DDR2 memory thats rated at 1.8 or 1.9v in long enough to boot and update the bios and/or manually set the memory voltage. If you don't have such a stick of memory, you will need to buy or borrow one or take it to a computer shop that has one.

Another option is to call GB and have them send you a new bios chip with the latest bios.

I actually forgot about the VDIMM issue myself, but its still possible the board will still POST with a single DIMM installed... it worked with my old Asus M2N-E when I ran into a similar problem.
