Can someone help me with laptop memory?

I just ordered a Toshiba Laptop for my daughter for Christmas. This is the laptop:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16834114529

There is a User Review (the most recent one) where the reviewer said:

"Pros: Put 3GB of DDR2 Ram in it and it sings and dances like the best of them!"

It comes with 2 GB of ram and I am assuming that means two 1 GB sticks.

1. Do you think he replaced one of them with a 2GB stick and left the other or did something else?

2. What should I buy?

Thanks

John

PS: Toshiba doesn't list this laptop on their website.

It should come with 2x 1GB sticks. If that's the case, why not get 2x 2GB sticks. With memory being so cheap now, the extra money you pay for 4GB vs. 3GB is small compared to the boost in performance that you get for running the machine in dual channel mode memory. Granted that the laptop will not be able to see a full 4GB of RAM if it is running a 32 bit version of Windows (with PAE enabled, it's about 3.25 ~ 3.5GB). As for the memory you can buy, this should be fine.

Thanks you so much for the quick response. What you said makes sense. Why mix modules when I can replace them both.

I am just not sure that it takes DDR2 667 and not DDR2 800. Can't find any information out on it. Unless I just wait until it comes, then run CPU Z to find out so I don't order the wrong thing.

Seeing that it's the new Pentium Dual Core (even S-Spec finder on Intel's website doesn't have any info on it), it most likely will run at a 667MHz FSB. The last gen Pentium Dual Cores ran at a 533MHz FSB.

Added: According to the spec sheet on newegg's site for the laptop, it does run at 667MHz. So the memory that I listed should be fine. If you want to buy DDR2-800, then it wouldn't hurt it at all.

None of the memory configurators on any of the memory websites list this model, but the specs listed here:

http://www.drivers-software-do...305-s5902-notebook-pc/

.....say that the laptop has PC6400 in it.

What would you recommend in PC6400 (DDR2 800) ram?

Thanks again,

John

EDIT: Now that I am looking at the Specs on the Newegg site, it says DDR2 800 there as well. I never looked there. I am feeling stupid now.
