Can someone help me with car audio stuff?

My friend gave me his old (still pretty new) Alpine Type-R speakers, a BIG step up from the factory BS in my 2000 Honda Accord. I need a new head unit too since I don't have a CD player and the factory head unit will make the Alpine speakers sound like butt. I dont know much about car audio, so bare with me...

Anyways, most of the time i'll be listenning to my iPod, so I need a headunit with either iPod support OR just an auxillary input. I don't care if i can't control the ipod through the head unit, it just has to sound good. It would also be nice if I could adjust the bass and treble (and maybe mid?) frequencies via the headunit. A decent ammount of power would be nice too since I can't afford a separate amp.

My goal is to get the headunit and installation (for just the headunit & whatever i need for the ipod) for $200 or less. Can anyone point me to some good products? I'm in tampa florida, incase you're reading this and you're in tampa too, lol 😛

save yourself 50 bucks and install it yourself or have a friend help you. It's extraordinarily easy to do and will only take a few hours workin slow.

Just start checkin out sites, crutchfield.com will give you an idea, overstock.com is where i got my deck, and theres misc other places to check.

JVC, Kenwood, Alpine, Eclipse, and some others are good.

Stick with brand name though. Look for - 2+ preouts, aux input, 50x4 at least, etc.

hmm ok i guess i can install it myself... are the prices at best buy and circuit city reasonable? That's pretty much all I have around here except for Sound Advice, which i hear is VERY expensive...

check out your local sears (if you have one) they occasionally have deals on head units, just have to find the dept (sometimes its kinda hidden but they all seem to have a car audio dept). At the price point your looking at may be worth checking out walmart as well, they have some pioneer and sony units along with many of the schoche adapters needed to install deck into a stock location. BB and CC can be reasonable, usually their decks on sale suck. I'd really suggest lookin online and finding something at sounddomain or crutchfield where you get the adapters for your car with the unit and thugs youll be all set.
