Can someone help me install my Radeon LE?

I'm having trouble installing my new Radeon LE. I've removed everything related to the old video card and start up in safe mode (VGA), put in the install CD, choose ATI EZ Install but it always says install fails because of some problem writing to something in the registry. Is there an easier way?

To add a little more detail, I'm upgrading the system from an MSI AMD K7 Pro (Slot A) and a Matrox G400. I did the "delete ENUM" in registry trick, switch everything over to a new MSI K7TPro2-A (Socket A) and the Radeon LE. Reboot the computer, everthing is found fine, install VIA 4in1 drivers (v4.25) and all is good until I try to install the drivers for the Radeon LE. I know alot of you will probably say do a format and clean install of OS (I'm using Win 98SE) but I really don't want to do that if there is another way.

Thanks a bunch in advance...

BTW, the system in my sig is my current system, the one I'm having trouble with is one I'm building for my wife.

Just a guess, but try downloading a newer set of drivers. The CD drivers are old anyway. After that, you need to tweak it to get the LE up to normal speed.

If you still cant install the drivers, it may time to do a clean install.

Thanks oldfart, somehow I knew I would get some help from you. 😉 I'll try the new drivers tonight and post the results.

Yep download drivers off the net, the ones on the CD are OLD!

Why are you booting in safe mode. After you uninstalled the drivers for your old card and removed it from the device manager you should have shut down installed your new Radeon. Next boot back up normally. When the Radeon is detected you could at this point install generic VGA drivers and reboot again then install the actual Radeon drivers, I would just cancel out of the automatic device detection and manually install the Radeon drivers.

You should not need safe mode to do any of this. Safe mode is for troubleshooting NOT installing new hardware.
